“We were greatly welcomed with enthusiasm by locals and internally displaced people in the Gori region. People expected positive suggestions and solutions from our visits and they looked at us with great hope. “.
During the COVID pandemic, the role of volunteering became more apparent in Georgia and especially in the Gori region which is extremely close to our occupied territories. The population here, in our city and in the surrounding villages, already has to live under stressful conditions as it is. During the pandemic, stress and uncertainty considerably intensified. Our role as volunteers was to reach out to the locals and work actively to support them in the face of the recommendations on social distancing.
I should note that Red Cross volunteers were greatly welcomed with enthusiasm by locals and internally displaced people in the Gori region. They expected positive suggestions and solutions from our visits and they looked at us with great hope.
