Twenty years ago, I worked with a similar group that, like the Ukrainian refugees, had not had their basic needs met and were living in hotels under very poor conditions. I was retraumatized when I encountered similar poor conditions in the hotel where the Ukrainian refugees were staying, such as problems with electricity in the building and snakes in the hotel yard. It took me considerable time to process my difficult emotions and the reemerging memories triggered by this experience.
